3rd Annual Year 7 Exhibition

During the last three years, it has become a tradition for our school to exhibit the artwork of its graduating class – a tradition that is welcomed by the student body, the staff and hundreds of friends and relatives of the students and the school. Thus, on 27th May 2009, at 7:00 pm, the American Academy and specifically the Creative and Expressive Arts Department hosted its 3rd Annual Year 7 Art Exhibition at the “House of Letters and Arts”, opposite the town central police station.

The Mayor of Larnaca, Mr. Andreas Moyseos honoured us with his presence and opened what proved to be an amazing show. The work our Year 7 students presented was the culmination of their Art studies at our school – the “A” Level work that has earned them high praise from both their art teachers as well as the Edexcel representative who viewed it and assessed it two days earlier.

The work varied in style and form – from traditional figurative and romantic painterly narrations, to more expressive abstract work, to sculptural and other 3-dimensional pieces, to conceptual and symbolic installations – it was ALL there! This exhibition truly had something for everyone’s taste!

We would like to congratulate our American Academy Graduating Class for this extraordinary presentation and would like to wish them great success in their fast-approaching artistic careers!

Message from the Director

Dear Alumni,

This section of our website is a new innovation designed to keep you up-to-date with developments and events at your school. We all know that our graduates have a fondness for the American Academy which is a non profit organisation and a registered charity with a governing body of alumni and two church representatives.

We hope that you will agree with us that there is a strength in developing a network of graduates which may also benefit current students. There is a wealth of experience and expertise from which they can benefit. By clicking on AA100 you will see the extensive archive of material which has been developed in just one year! The power of collective memory will help us to ensure that the history of our school is there for all to see.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Director

Reunion invitation

Dear Alumnus,

With the centenary celebrations concluded, the American Academy Alumni Foundation has set out on a fresh start determined to build on its accomplishments. The measure of success will focus on our ability to enhance and increase relations with A.A. graduates.

The Academians, all these years, have proved to be the custodians of their school’s tradition and its values. As you know, the management of the school was turned over to its alumni a few decades ago as a trust and obviously, its predecessors must not be betrayed. Our school must have a culture of excellence supported by a culture of evidence!

Therefore, an additional task for 2009-2010 is for the Alumni Affairs Office to offer support to the growing A.A. family in any way possible. Happily, this year the A.A. Foundation is more adequately equipped to achieve its goals which, among others, involve getting through approximately 4000 alumni and encourage them to STAY in TOUCH!

No matter WHERE YOU ARE we will make it possible for you to KEEP CONTACT or meet with your fellow alumni.

As a start, a series of friendly gatherings will be held at the School Cafeteria.

On Saturday, 13 June 2009 the Graduating Classes of 1970-1979 are WELCOME to a mini reunion with ex-classmates and friends.
DON’T STAY AWAY!
BE at the School Cafeteria at any time from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Beverages and snacks will be served at the cost of €6.
